Primary master HD failed......ummmmm no?

so im putting my parents new pc together. i got an oem western digital drive for them. now i got windows 2000 installed but for some reason on boot it always says primary master drive failed. i press f1 to continue and the OS boots no prob. which is really weird. ive tried the drive on both IDE 1 and 2 and on the first and second connections on the cables. ive also tried setting the jumper on the one spot that makes it a (master with slave) and with no jumper which makes it a single drive. still the same thing happens. like i said i can f1 and everything works but its kind of annoying. also wheres the setting in 2000 that makes the pc completely shut off after a shutdown? right now it goes to the "it is safe to turn of your pc screen", which is another minor annoyance.

Sounds like it might be a motherboard issue. Look for bios updates for it. Also try another ide cable.

Another thing to do is go to western digitals site and get thier drive diagnostic tool.
