NES feature: dedicated character ROM

NES, like Neo-Geo, has a dedicated ROM bus on the cartridge for the PPU to grab graphics data. On most consoles this data is fed to the graphics processor by the CPU, or the graphics processor takes over the system bus and uses DMA to grab it. Do any other console systems have a dedicated bus like NES and Neo-Geo?

I guess what I'm saying is, other consoles have to steal system bus bandwidth from the CPU (or worse) in order to read graphics ROMS, which is an inefficient way of accessing the ROMS. NES and Neo-Geo have their graphics ROMS on a dedicated bus, so the ROMS can be read directly by the graphics processor instead of using the system bus to read the ROMS.

This is clearly a breach of protocol - by all accounts I should have died by now :).
