Corpse Killer poor light gun support

Does anyone know why corpse killer has such poor light gun response?

I was making sure the game worked with a gun since my ALG gun didn't work (see other post). So I tried the menacer. The menacer works, but the response is horrible. The shot is very jumpy from the aim, about 2 inches diameter random hit area, and it fires very slowly. You can't fire off shots quickly in succession.

Now, the shooting in the game works fine and fast if you use the controller, so it's not the game engine itself. And the menacer is super-accurate and smooth on other games like T2: Arcade Game (and playing T2 with the menacer is quite a treat!). So it must be just some really poor light gun coding. Which seems dumb since they could have copied or borrowed good code from any other number of games.

That might also explain why Digital Pictures never put light gun support into Ground Zero Texas. They couldn't get the code working at the time. It's really a shame, because Ground Zero Texas would have been an A+ title with light gun support.
