The lack of a framebuffer isn't the issue. The OSSC just isn't fast enough at handling resolution switching. You'd need something like a Retrotink 5X. They're quite expensive, however.

The high end flash carts support hacked large ROMs (as well as mappers used in actual carts). If you're allowed to use enhancement chips but only for allowing larger ROMs, I would think that's perfectly valid as long as you're not actually crunching anything with the onboard chip(s). I wonder...

Hardsubbing would be easy, but would also result in reduced quality. Might be a good stopgap solution. Doing softsubs would require code hackery, but if they can find the time (eventually) it would be pretty awesome.

Shame you don't have source access. Would be better if you could add soft sub support instead... adding hardsubs obviously involves a lossy-lossy encode. Granted I'm gonna enjoy playing it on real hardware no matter what! That isn't an issue with the cinepak version, since you're re-encoding...
