    Screeen resolution hacks

The lack of a framebuffer isn't the issue. The OSSC just isn't fast enough at handling resolution switching. You'd need something like a Retrotink 5X. They're quite expensive, however.

    SegaXtreme Cross-Platform FMV Competition

The high end flash carts support hacked large ROMs (as well as mappers used in actual carts). If you're allowed to use enhancement chips but only for allowing larger ROMs, I would think that's perfectly valid as long as you're not actually crunching anything with the onboard chip(s). I wonder...

    SegaXtreme Cross-Platform FMV Competition

I guess if you're not seeing any gains going as high as 2748, there isn't much point. The point was to reduce the footprint of the audio, I was thinking with MPEG the drive speed would be a bottleneck. I guess at that low of a resolution there isn't much room for improvement, aside from maybe...

    SegaXtreme Cross-Platform FMV Competition

I figured a 2X would be able to push a little more than that, but I guess 2400 is a theoretical limit. As far as MPEG goes, what I was asking was can you feed the VCD decoder MPEG-1 video, and split an audio stream off to be decoded in software (CPU, DSP, etc). Basically a custom player...

    SegaXtreme Cross-Platform FMV Competition

Blech composite! :P Fantastic episode of TNG, IMO. That aside, for the cheat edition on the Saturn... if the VCD decoder can't handle more than ~2000kbits, can you boost the quality of the audio? On a similar vein, could the SH-2s handle Layer III?

    Translating Lunar Silver Star Story

Indeed. I'm not saying you're going to lose a lot, but taking a lossy source video and re-encoding it as a lossy video will lose a bit of quality. In theory you could use fancypants modern algorithms to boost "source" quality in both scenarios, but that brings its own issues. I'm looking forward...

Hardsubbing would be easy, but would also result in reduced quality. Might be a good stopgap solution. Doing softsubs would require code hackery, but if they can find the time (eventually) it would be pretty awesome.

    Translating Lunar Silver Star Story

Shame you don't have source access. Would be better if you could add soft sub support instead... adding hardsubs obviously involves a lossy-lossy encode. Granted I'm gonna enjoy playing it on real hardware no matter what! That isn't an issue with the cinepak version, since you're re-encoding...

Phantasy Star II - August 2020

One of my favorite RPGs from that era. The setting was fascinating, especially coming from largely traditional fantasy 80's RPGs, there was nothing quite like it. The closest was its direct predecessor, but PS II had an even stronger science fiction influence. The characters were cool, the music...

I'd prefer subtitles given a choice but really whichever proves to be easier is probably the way to go.

    Translating Lunar Silver Star Story

We appreciate your efforts and those of Ms. Tea and anyone else contributing. In particular I am looking forward to the MPEG version. Hopefully the relevant code is near-identical! Once it's released we'll have to go to the youtubes and get the word out. Saturn fans everywhere will want to see...

    Translating Lunar Silver Star Story

I don't generally use forums these days, but I stumbled across one of TrekkiesUnite118's posts elsewhere and he mentioned this thread. I had to reset my password just so I could post and thank you and everyone else working on this! I own both games on Sega CD but playing the Saturn version in...

    Haha

It's called the main page. It has news updates and so forth... http://www.litespeedcomputers.com/sx/ But really, I hope nobody took that seriously. I wonder what percentage of web pages are scams? Better yet, what percentage of non-porn sites are scams (since most of the internet is porn, all...
