Copying a story is a copyright infringement and can result in nasty things like lawsuits. This has happened to other sites. Reuters and the AP are especially notorious for doing this, as anyone who runs one of their stories must pay for the story's use.
You can summarize a story, or quote one or two sentences. The best way to go is a quick summary or a "headline" type sentence, then a link for the full story.
